Melaka Dataran Pahlawan in Bandar Hilir is a historic site, where Chief Minister of Malaya (First Prime Minister) Tunku Abdul Rahman was announced that the British Government had agreed to grant Malaya Independence the following year, which is 31st August 1957.. After arrived Batu Berendam airport, Melaka, the participants chanting “Merdeka” (means Independence) until Dataran Pahlawan for announcing the date for Independence. The reason for choosing this place was that it was the first State to be colonised in 1511 by the Portuguese.

Nowadays, the area around Dataran Pahlawan had developed as shopping center, named as Melaka Dataran Pahlawan Megamall and the Dataran Pahlawan was under renovation.
